Well, not *too* pointless, heh.

This past Monday, my Mom had her left knee replaced. She had the right one done about six years ago, and the last couple years has had a *lot* of pain from her degenerating left knee. So it was about time!

On Friday i went down to where she lives to help her get home and such, but she wasn't feeling well enough to leave the hospital, and ended up not coming home until Saturday. She's doing very well, actually - stiff and sore from lying in bed for so long, and her foot is a bit swollen, but when i left Sunday she was pretty chipper.

Now she just has to endure being 'nursed' by my two brothers. Eeep! Boys are just not very good nurses.

My almost-sis-in-law also graduated from college on Friday, with a degree in Mathmatics - major - and a minor in Art. AND, my nephew graduated from High School, and is going to college in the fall. Yay! Both of them worked hard and graduated with honors, and i'm so proud of them!

Lastly - the delightful and talented catsbycat made art for me! Two separate gifts of art for my 'South China Sea' Vietnam AU. They're lovely and amazing and i hope everyone who liked the fic will go and see them!

This is the story i wrote ages ago, the one that made me want to do the j2_everafter challenge. It's not 'officially' part of that, but since i'd mostly finished it by the time we actually got our prompts...here it is!

I loved writing this. I love this fic. It was so *fun*, in style and structure, to bring to life. I hope you enjoy!

This is my j2_everafter fic - finally! I wanted to be done sooner but let myself get distracted.

It's a fic that is - as per comm rules - based on a Disney movie. In this case, 'Swiss Family Robinson', though it's a bit more on the 'book' side than the 'movie' side.

And that is almost that! I have, however a rec. roxymissrose just posted the final part of her Supernatural fic Lodi. Gods. Hard-core angst, people, gorgeous and hurty and just.... Gods. Go for it, if you dare.

Oh oh!! I forgot the other thing i wanted to mention. In Fall some time, they are going to start airing the new 'Stargate:Universe' series. And i know, i know, wank galore. But i'm going to be watching because Robert Carlyle, whom i utterly adore, is going to be playing one of the main-main characters. Wheeee! RC, on my TV! :) To that end, i'm mainlining 'Stargate:Atlantis' episodes so i can be all caught up and know wth, just in case. Now i *like* SG:A, and have enjoyed fic and such, but never really *watched*.... Now, thanks to darkhavens being there for my IM squees, and plying me with omgtons! of fic, i am just.... Well, I'm happily wallowing. I doubt i'll write anything, even though i love sci-fi, but man, i'm having fun. :)

Hallo, flist! Thought i'd rec a few things, and just generally say 'hallo'. My j2_everafter fic is halfway done and it's...a little darker than i thought. Ah well! Happy ending, i promise. My other, not!j2_everafter fic is *done* and has been done and i want to post *so bad*!!

Tonight, darkhavens and i discovered something dreadful. Bartleby - the place you go for quotes - uses the *bowdlerized* version of Romeo and Juliet! Et-fucking-cetera!!! We are crushed.


In happier news - recs! Firstly, reremouse has posted a lovely bit of Mouse!Spander, which is a fine and vintage Spander, and something you shouldn't miss. Last Dog Watch Off Miami.

Secondly, roxymissrose is writing a wonderful, angsty and gorgeous Supernatural fic, full of the heat and madness of a long summer. Lodi is an excellent read. WIP, but nearly done, and she posts fast. :)

Thirdly, we have toldthestars and her utterly out-there fic, The Death and Resurrection of Dean Winchester. Part 1 and part 2. Final part up soon! It's AU, it's freaky, and you'll love it. Or hate it. Heeeeee.

So disdainful! Heh.

Just updating with a couple little things. First, my sis-in-law had surgery today - a tubal, yay! I took her to the hospital and sat with her and we bitched about politics and life in general and whatnot, and had a good time, and i took her home sore but happy, so all good.

She also handed me a stack of mail from *last December* that had been at her house all this time, so guess what i got?

XMAS CARDS! Hehe. Sheesh. So that's why a couple/three of you never got a 'thank you' - i never got them! Ah well. :)

Also? Second Sweet Charity fic nearly done! Timestamp for Treadmill, yay!


The other thing is why the disdain. I am so angry on behalf of two people, gods. Makes my stomach hurt a little. You all know - or most of you know, i guess - Cat is a tattooist. Right now most of his clients are military, being as we live right outside a base.

So this past week he did a cover up on a woman. She had the two interlocked female symbols and had to have them hidden or no promotions for her! Which sucks. But! The suckier part. She's got a partner. They got tattoos together that symbolize *them*. Her partner is going to Iraq. After that, they'll both be reassigned. But since you 'can't ask' and 'can't tell' in the military, they can't ask for the same duty station. Because their love isn't recognized, and if they were legally married? Their branch of the military doesn't care.

They might be assigned to separate posts with a whole country between them. In fact, odds are, they *will be* separated. And stating that their together, in love, partners? Gets them both tossed.

This has got to end, people. It has *got to end*.

Ummmm....in other news - the temperature keeps rising and dropping, we had tornado watches yesterday and then possible snow tonight. Jayzus. Make up your mind!!

I know this took forever and ever and ever, and i'm so terribly sorry! But here it is, finally and at last, and i really hope that it suits! Written for zortified. Faith isn't the easiest of people for me to write, and Buffy even less so, so it was a challenge, for sure - pretty much the reason i chose it!

Yes, I know it's over by two days, but.... I had a good one! So i thought i'd post about it. :)

Went down to see my mom and brothers, which is always nice. Didn't *do* much, mostly just hung out at my mom's house and talked. This in particular took the form of me and my older brother sitting around and talking about books - like Star Trek Lives! and The Magic Goes Away and such and quoting lines at each other and just generally having a nostalgia fest. This segued into us talking about such things as The Bugaloos and H.R. Puffenstuff and giggling like idiots and singing theme songs, and then there was more modern stuff like Ren and Stimpy and South Park, where my brothers regaled me with funnies from *those* shows, which i never watched.

Older brother and i also had a bit of a late-night bitch-fest about his gf's atrocious family and the utter sucktasticness of lawyers and just how much his ex is fucking up their daughter, which...yeah. Bah. If ever a man needed to win the Lottery, it's my brother.

Also made and iced sugar cookies and made bread and did the dishes. :)

Then, took Mom, the Monstrous and cousins to Hot Topic in the mall. Good lord. I let them out and went to park, and walking through to find them i just kept biting my lip and trying not to laugh out loud at all the little tween and teen wanna-be gothy-emo-hipster Gerard Way clones that were choking up every freakin' inch of the hallways.

Between them and people with strollers the size of small cars, it was a bit hellish.

My mom and i stood around in HT for a couple minutes, very loudly talking about people who were too ignorant and rude to actually re-fold and put away merchandise, but the woman we were talking about ignored us and continued to unfold t-shirt after t-shirt and then stuff them sloppily back into the shelves. Idiot.

So we went and sat on a bench and commented on the passers-by instead, which was fun, because if you get her going, my mom is as catty as i am, just with nicer language. Wheeeeee!

Hit the bookstore, too, to use our Xmas gift cards, and i got a copy of Swiss Family Robinson, yay! Soon as i re-read it, i can start my other fairy tale fic.

Also got a gorgeous hand-made card from the SO, with the money for my Writercon reservation in it, YES! Awesomesauce.

All in all, a good weekend. And to the lovely, lovely people who left comments for me over at svmadelyn's Valentine's Day Game - thank you, thank you, thank you! You give me warm fuzzies. :)

Well, trolling around on my flist, and i followed a link, or maybe two, that somehow got me to jensen_daily. Not a comm i frequent, i admit. But! spg_spn_girls had posted a sort of challenge.

Oh well! *of course, i had Snow prodding and poking and encouraging me, so, we'll blame her. la la.*

Everyone else on the planet, it seems, is getting snow, while we just get high-speed, Arctically cold wind. With some rain. We had *thunder* and lightning a couple days ago. Weeird.

Is it too much, universe, for my daughter to actually get a white Christmas? She hasn't had one yet!

Anyway....I hope the Solstice was a merry one, or at least peaceful for all of you, my flist. I'm still in a sort of vague denial that it's actually only three days until the 25th. WTH, December?

I'm feeling...exhausted. And for no good reason, too. I keep having these weird dreams and night sweats, which - hey, not on! Can't tell if it's a fever - it feels like constant low-grade fever - or if 'the change' is coming early to me. Either way, i keep a towel by the bed.

I'm here, i'll be here, i may not comment a lot. I'll try! We're having low-key Xmas this year, which is awesome, and i mostly just wanna huddle over my space heater and nap.

Oh, fandom. FANDOM! Sometimes, you are just the most amazing thing ever. For example....

katekat1010 likes the No More Snakes and Ladders, the post-everything Spander story reremouse and i wrote years ago. *2005!!*

She liked it so much that she did THIS! A collection of gorgeous, amazing artwork, one for each chapter of the story, and two more 'bonus' ones, plus this adorable Tiny Tim icon.

Rere and i are both truly, truly overwhelmed. It's just...amazing! So i had to share.


I also wanted to share this. Monstrous likes to sit behind me, on her Dad's computer, and watch vids and listen to music while she chats with her friends and stuff. These two vids are her current favorites that she literally watches over and over and over.

Twilight review that's just insanely fun, and Twilight trailer spoof that makes me giggle every time.
