It's been six years of Christmasses on my Livejournal. Six years! Wheeeee! And i've loved every minute of it. So to all of you, whatever you celebrate or don't celebrate this time of year - have a merry holiday, and wonderful new year!
*hugs you all*

This is my most favorite xmas song. So i thought i'd share. :)

And to all...a good night!

It's Dawn/Connor, my flisties! Who'd a thunk? But only PG, so no worries about under-aged sexing. This was fun, if a bit weird for me. Though i *have* written Dawn before, *and* Connor. Though just not together. :)

[info]menomegirl said: Oooooh. Connor/Dawn, please. She also had a word prompt, but that didn't make it. Sorry! Hope you like it, though. It's a bit of AU, but...that was the only way i could do it. Post-everything Dawn/Connor was just *not* working for my brain. :) Title is from Robert Browning. I didn't get it beta'd 'cause i'm all impatient and such. So - any mistakes, point 'em out!
ETA: After-the-fact beta'd by [info]darkhavens. :)

Aaaaand, a question for my flist. I read a couple places that the first season, particularly, of Leverage had been shown out of order, and once i even found a site that had the 'original' and 'aired' order, but now i can't find that again. Anybody have any links? Helpful suggestions? Thank you!

It's nearly Xmas, and that means i get to use my spiffy Chibi!Icon! Yay! :) Plus, a veritable blizzard of snowflake cookies - awesome! Thank you again, everyone. And especial thinks to the Anonymous person who sent one.
*smishes you all*

I don't do a lot of memes, but i kinda like this icon one, so i waved my hand at [info]crimsonkitty88 and she picked out five for me to 'explain'. Heh. I'm not going to, uh, do the meme reciprocally, though, as i'm lame like that *and* i really, really, really need to be *writing*. Prompts! Apocabigbang!! :)

*plus i still have a little xmas stuff to do.....*

It's gotten *very cold* here, but no snow yet. Possibly later this week, which means i need to make sure there is soup and bread and cheese and such in the house.

On to the icons! )

So there you have it. Wasn't that fun? Now, i must get my buns into gear and clear some of those prompts!! (After i hit the bank. And possibly the store, though, omg, so don't want to...so hate grocery shopping....)

ETA: [info]essene!!! She was the one airing out all her icons. Thank you, [info]darkhavens. Sheesh, my memory sucks. :)

Give me my comments, LJ!

But, before the fic, a big 'i'm sorry!' to [info]too_rational, who weeks ago gifted me with a PDF of Generation Landslide and the remix by [info]poisontaster. And i totally spaced on pimping it! I'm so sorry! Just click the link to her lj and the download. And again, thank you thank you, so much. They're lovely! :)

This is for [info]without_me, whose prompt was:Supernatural (Sam/Dean if that's a possibility, but no harm if not); On the day I was born, it rained.

So, because i'm a dork and left it so long, my usual beta (waves at [info]darkhavens) couldn't get to it. So if you see anything - feel free to speak up! Group-beta, why not?

I Was Born in a Summer Storm )

In a couple hours, we're out of here, to spend a couple days at my mom's house. My sister is in from NC for a visit, and we're having a sorta-kinda turkey day and family hang-out time. See you all laterz! :)

ETA: I think this fic is a little...strange? But it was what came to mind....

Finally, i know! I wanted to go in order, but the Dawn/Connor prompt from [info]menomegirl is eluding me, so i had to skip to the next one. Soon, though, i promise!

[info]too_rational asked for several things, but a timestamp for Generation Landslide is what caught my eye.

Today I've been thinking about my Dad. I'm sure most of my flisties know he was in the Navy - i've talked about it here before. He served for three years, joining up as soon as he could. He wanted the Air Force, he wanted the sky, but his vision wasn't right, so he chose the Navy instead, along with his brothers.

He was there at Normandy, working as as corpsman. He told me once that he remembered seeing the bodies, blown open, everything exposed to the sky, and that it took him years to be able to close his eyes and not see that. But he only ever told me that once. His chosen 'war stories' were lighthearted ones. His favorite was the one where he and a couple other guys - as Navy corpsman, i think they were attached to a Marine unit - were patching up wounded. And there were German and American ones, in some field in France. And once they were done, they traded, good German chocolate for American sulfa powder, because the German stuff was coarse as rock salt. And as they packed up and moved out, they turned to wave at the German medic, who lifted their helmet off to wave it. And, said my dad, out tumbled all this long, blonde hair, because the medic was a woman.

I think of my Dad every day, but today especially, because i was always so proud of him, going off to serve, to fight, to heal. And i miss him so much, and i love him.

To all who serve, the dead and the living - you are remembered. Thank you.

Adolf Pestana - 1925-2007

ETA: I didn't post this for hugs or praise or anything, i posted this because of my Dad. If you want to say something, feel free, but don't feel you *have* to.

Here we go, here we go. Prompt the second for the lovely [info]mirasol, who said:You know who I'd love to see if you were of a mind to scribble something? Spike and Mal. Ummm, if you want a prompt, how about "skedaddle"?

I haven't written Firefly in *ages*! Meep! *crosses fingers* :)

The Chinese is hopefully right. Mostly it's from here. The first phrase is from here.

Tah mah duh hwoon dahn - mother fucking son of a bitch
gŏu - dog
méi huā - plum blossom
Shàng dì - God
hún dàn - bastard

'The Wearing of the Green' is an Irish street ballad. The title is from this Chinese proverb:A person is blessed once, but his troubles never come alone.

Beta'd by [info]darkhavens, of course. Thank you!

Wow, you guys kinda bowled me over with all the requests. Wheeeee! I shall hopefully get to them in a timely manner.

Here's the first one, for [info]vichan. Her prompt was:Supernatural - Dean/Castiel, Sam? Or Dean and Sam and Castiel if you'd rather not touch the scary ship. Something about the amulet changing hands? Hope you like it!

[info]darkhavens, of course, did my beta. Thank you!

Though Mame *does* write her biography, so this comes close....

"Now Brian, do you think the general public is going to understand all this symbolism? 'Like an echo from the caves of Cochemara, I came forth whilst Deirdre wept cool tears.' Wouldn't it be simpler to say...'On the day I was born, it rained in Buffalo?'"

I am in the mood to write! I signed up for the [info]apocabigbang and am working on that story already, plus on a couple others i have in my 'fic in progress' folder. But!

I wanna write. So i'm going to do that dreaded 'gimme a prompt!' thing. You know what fandoms i write and like, but just as a reminder...Buffy/Angel, Firefly, Supernatural. Gen to smut, i don't care. Gimme a word, a sentence, a song, whatever. And a pairing/fandom, of course. Or person, if you don't care to see a pairing. Don't expect massive angst, as i don't do that too well.

Or a timestamp! I'd do a timestamp on any fic, too, though if it's like...the very first Buffy fic i ever wrote, that could take some time, heh. Um.

I don't expect a dogpile, but i *do* reserve the right to cut ya'll off if it gets nutty. And of course, no time frame, but i'd hope to have them written...soon.
*bites nails nervously*
I haven't done this in a while. Eep!

ETA: OH MY FUCKING GOD. 23? *flails*

Okay, cut off is 25 plus Snow's prompt, she gets one no matter what 'cause i told her i was gonna do this last night and she works *hard* for her money, so she gets the extra cookie. But, yeah. 25. Jayzus. You guys are insane. I hope i can write these! *flails*

I'll reply to your comment if i have a clarification question or when the fic is done and posted.

Hello, lovelies! I got home today from a quite delightful visit with my Mum. The Bebe stayed the whole weekend with her cousin, aunt, and uncle, and my brother and his girlfriend were out of town, so it was just the two of us. Very nice! We windows shopped, and made fun of the ugly bags and clothing we saw, admired some very nice 'Mad Men-esque' dresses, ate Italian, and chocolate cake, and watched a movie. All in all, very relaxing, and it was nice to just sit and visit without any interruptions.
*hugs my Mum*
:)

Now i'm home, though, and a bit worn out from the drive, as always. It's not a long drive, but it always makes me woozy. It's nice to see my cats again, though - i missed them!

[info]kamikazeremix fics have gone live, yay! So now I can post mine here, or of course, you can read at the comm. My own fic was also remixed, wheeeee! So there's that, too. The fic that i remixed was very different from my 'usual', so it was a bit of a challenge! I'm happy to say that the author was pleased with my effort, though, so that's pretty much all that counts. I rather like it, too. :)

So, here are the links. I put Generation Landslide up for remix, and got a lovely variation by [info]poisontaster, Generation Landslide (The Quick Brown Fox Two-Step). Go! Read! Feed! :)

Then, my original fic was Dancers at the Lake by [info]fanishliss.

And here's my remix. Beta'd by [info]darkhavens, as always.

At long last, the master list post is up, and so we may now take responsibility for our stories! Yay! And I now know that my own fic was written for me by [info]mikiya2200 - Too Little, Too Late. Thank you again! :)

The prompt I choose (of three) was this: Mary never died, but she couldn't run from hunting forever (bonus if everyone in the family survives in the AU 'verse) Which is always an interesting premise, at least to me. :)

So, here t'is. The title is from Shakespeare's Sonnet 19, and as the challenge indicates - it's a gen fic. Beta'd, of course, by the talented [info]darkhavens and [info]sweptawaybayou did her usual cheering on that made me double down and finish it up. Thank you, ladies!

The opening bit of dialogue is from a transcript of the season four episode "In the Beginning".

I just realized something. I am a total asshat. Someone out there, some delightful person, made lovely pdf files of Wolfpack. And linked them to me, and worked very hard to make them pretty and *i*, in Senior Citizen moment of epic proportions, totally forgot to pimp them here, *or* to bookmark where the links are. Jayzus. God.

Please please, you out there, speak up so i can share them with everyone! I feel like such a heel.

ETA: WHOOOOOOT! [info]too_rational FTW!!!
You can find the .pdf of Aftermath at zshare and mediafire, and Wolfpack at zshare and mediafire.

Thank you again! *twirls you*

Also, along the same lines, my [info]spn_summergen fic - the one that was written for me - has been posted. Several days ago. Yeesh. So finally, i pimp! I was waiting until the reveal, but that seems to be taking a while, so even though people seem not to leave comments on anonymous fic as much - which is silly! Comment!! - i'm going to link. So go! Read! :)

Too Little, Too Late.

So, there, my mea culpa moments of the week! :)

Hiatus, it is nearly over!!
*twirls*

:)

So i'm posting a few bits and bobs of things that i've 'collected'. Firstly, two people had little drabble-prompty type posts up and i did a prompt and so got ficlets! Yay!

A little Sam'n'Dean from [info]witling, full of teh angst, but excellent. My prompt was just 'Supernatural', so she had free rein. And then something a bit more light-hearted from [info]kellifer_fic, when i said i wanted the boys being boys and John about to toss them in the river in a sack. Heeeeee! Thank you, ladies.

Then, [info]lunabee34 had this 'i'll ask you some questions' meme thing and i just....felt like it. :)
Under here! )

And, lastly - mostly lastly - for some strange reason, [info]essene wanted to see the contents of my purse. Ha! I told her it was boring, but she insisted, so....

Here you go.... )

[info]kamikazeremix fic is *done*, they're posting on the 7th, yayay! And it's lovely and cool here, and we still have kittens on the porch, and.......that's all. :)

I have been struck down. Some sort of summer cold...thing. Or something. Head - killing me. Throat - scratchy and awful. Lungs - coughing.
*flails weakly*

I've spent most of my day feeling puny on the couch. I wanted to post this before i went to bed. [info]witling asked me to link this. A friend of hers works at a convent in Mexico, and needs our help. If you can go to this site, and make an account, you can vote for her to get an award, which translates to money and hopefully job opportunities for the women and girls she's helping. You can read more at the site, or at [info]witling's journal, here.

Thanks, everybody.

[info]essenceofmeanin - sorry i missed you!

Mostly easy. It's *hot* and rather humid, but we have window fans, and a judicious hour or two of AC in the thick of it, and drawn shades, work quite nicely. As do Popsicles. :)

I just watched the most fabu Leverage vid by [info]danegen. Someone on my flist linked it - i'm sorry, i didn't take note of who! But it's awesome, so awesome. Hardison-centric. Go! Enjoy! Start the Commotion.

I'm linking to some images, too - the kittens on our back porch, and the river that's near our house, the Gasconade. The Bebe and i went down to take a look-see one day. The kittens are all *ready to be adopted*!!!
*hint hint hint*
:)

You can find them here, at my Flickr account.

I finished watching all the Criminal Minds eps, and am eagerly awaiting the start of the next season. OMG, cliffhanger! :) I adore the whole cast. Well, Rossi is the last on the list, but i'm getting used to him. But! Reid, Morgan, Prentiss, *GARCIA*. JJ and Hotch. Just...utter luff.

What else, what else.... Oh, the writers of Stargate continue apace as the most idiotic asshats ever. OMFG. If you scroll to the bottom, there's a link wherein the Stargate people replied, and the 'last' button gives you comments on the first article. Just...damn. I was *so* looking forward to seeing Mr. Carlyle on my tv - why do the writers gotta make me dread it?

I joined the [info]kamikazeremix again this year, and have my story. I need to do a reread and then get writin'! I'm also eagerly awaiting the [info]spn_summergen story that was written for me - not posted yet, but soon, i hope! Otherwise, i'm poking at things, thinking about things, writing bits and pieces of things.

And i have about a billion bookmarks still from when i was gone to Writercon. Slowly but surely, i'm working my way through them....

And that's all, folks! :)

That's what i get for posting tired! The [info]spn_summergen stories are now posting, and my contribution is up! Wheeee! Anonymous, of course. :)

Okay, so - Writercon.... )

Now, i must to bed. I noticed that LJ is not passing along comments, oh what fun. Apparently the less-than-awesome way LJ has been running since yesterday/today is down to some person - possibly the Russian government? - hacking LJ, Twitter and Facebook. [info]trepkos provided this link: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/8189162.stm

Weird stuff!! I'm also watching Criminal Minds. Wheeeeee! I luff them. I can't believe that Garcia/the actress wasn't even *mentioned* in the credits for the entirety of season one. Lame! I do adore she and Morgan flirting, though, and of course Reid in all his geeky, wooby glory. And i rather miss Elle, but i like Prentiss, and JJ rocks. Hotch is adorably uptight and i must say...while i enjoyed him, i don't actually miss Gideon.
*plows through season three*
*yawns*

Goodnight!

Oh, Mr. Cronkite. The first non-family voice of my childhood, who calmly told me the news of the day, explained the horrors and the wonders of the world, and assured me by his measured and gentle tones, that all would be well, in the end. You, sir, were one of a kind, and you shall be missed. Rest in peace.
*sniffle*

Seems silly, but his news broadcasts really *were* a huge part of my childhood. The news was *always* on during dinner, and it was always Walter Cronkite, and he reminded me of a my dad a bit, and it just makes me...nostalgic, i guess, for those days.

Anyway. In other news - Cat is currently in Kansas City at the Tattoo Rendezvous, dispensing art and chatting up people. So if you're in the area, drop by! That leaves me and the Monstrous 'home alone' as it were, but we're just hanging out, watching tv and eating mac'n'cheese. :)
*miss you, mignon*

I'm working on my spnsummergen fic, and enjoying where it's taking me. Two more weeks until it's due! Two more weeks to Writercon!!

And in television news, i just this week watched the newest mini-season of Torchwood. Let me tell you what I thought...with spoilers! )

And that's the way it is in *my* world tonight. I'll probably toddle off to bed soon...in my woolly socks, as it's suddenly gotten *very* chilly here, for June in Misery.
